Cape Canaveral's skies lit up Tuesday afternoon when a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station at 5:15 p.m. on July 21, 2026, carrying a pair of spacecraft built by Northrop Grumman.
The payload was the Mission Robotic Vehicle (MRV) paired with a Mission Extension Pod (MEP) — a combination designed to service other satellites already in orbit. Rather than letting aging satellites go dark, the MRV is built to approach them and provide life-extending assistance while in space.
The mission, referred to as MRV-MEP, represents a growing category of in-space servicing technology that could reshape how operators manage satellite fleets over the long term. Launching from the familiar LC-40 pad, this flight added another milestone to the Space Coast's busy 2026 manifest.
