Beachgoers in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia faced a high risk of dangerous rip currents Sunday, even as dry and comfortable weather settled across the region.
News4JAX meteorologist Michelle McCormick reported that minor flooding was also possible near the St. Johns River through the evening high tide. Some Atlantic beachfront locations could see minor flooding around the morning high tide, expected near 9 a.m. in many areas. A coastal flood advisory was in effect from 6 a.m. until noon.
Offshore conditions were expected to be choppy over Northeast Florida waters, with a Small Craft Advisory in effect for boaters.
Away from the coast, skies were forecast to be partly sunny, with highs in the mid-80s and no rain expected. Overnight temperatures were expected to fall into the 50s inland and the 60s nearer the coast.
Warmer, dry weather is expected Monday and Tuesday, when highs could reach the upper 80s and a few locations may touch 90 degrees. Storm chances are forecast to return later in the week as humidity increases.
