The North Florida Wildlife Center in Tallahassee has a couple of new residents: two young female red kangaroos named Tillie and Bonnie, who arrived this week and are already making themselves at home.
Their arrival is part of a deliberate, long-range breeding and conservation plan for the species. Executive Director Ryan Reines explained that the center is building a small mob — the term for a kangaroo group — made up of one male and three females, meaning Tillie and Bonnie bring that goal nearly to completion.
Visitors won't have to wait long to see the pair in action. The Wildlife Center has an Australia Walkthrough exhibit in the works, where guests will be able to get up close with Australian animals including emus and kangaroos. Details on the exhibit's opening have not yet been announced.
The center also noted it is actively looking for volunteers to support its operations and animal care programs. Those interested can reach out through the Wildlife Center directly.
