NASA has brought another commercial rocket into the fold, awarding Relativity Space Inc. a spot on its Launch Services (NLS) II contract and adding the company's Terran R vehicle to the roster of launch options available for future agency missions.
The addition was made through the NLS II contract's annual on-ramp provision, which gives new launch providers a path to compete for NASA business and allows existing contractors to introduce vehicles not previously covered under their agreements. The NLS II contracts are structured as multiple-award, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity arrangements, with an ordering period running through June 2030 and an overall performance window extending to December 2032.
The contracts serve several NASA directorates — including the Human Spaceflight, Science, and Research and Technology mission directorates — and also allow the agency to offer launch services to other federal entities such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Day-to-day management of the NLS II contracts falls to NASA's Launch Services Program Office, based at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. NASA issued this announcement as contract release C26-011.
