NASA has three spacewalks on the calendar for August, all conducted outside the International Space Station by American astronauts. The work covers a range of station maintenance and improvement tasks, including solar array upgrades, a communications antenna replacement, and connecting power and data cables.
The first outing, scheduled for August 6, will send astronauts Jessica Meir and Anil Menon through the Quest airlock to modify the station's 3B power channel. That work will set the stage for the eventual installation of the seventh International Space Station Roll-Out Solar Array, or IROSA, which is expected to be delivered to the station later this year.
NASA experts will preview all three upcoming spacewalks during a news conference at 2 p.m. EDT on Thursday, July 30, broadcasting live from Johnson Space Center in Houston. Participants include Bill Spetch, deputy manager of the Commercial Low Earth Orbit Program, along with spacewalk flight directors Chris Dobbins and Chloe Mehring.
