A winner of Florida’s annual python hunt captured what was described as an astonishing number of Burmese pythons in the Florida Everglades.
Burmese pythons have spread across much of the Everglades habitat, where they threaten numerous wildlife species. The annual hunt is focused on removing the invasive snakes from an area once used by a wide range of native animals.
The reported haul underscores the scale of the python problem in South Florida’s wetlands, where the nonnative snakes have become established across large areas.
