Florida recreational anglers will have 14 additional days to harvest Atlantic red snapper this fall under a revised Exempted Fishing Permit approved by NOAA Fisheries.
The season for private recreational anglers and for-hire operations in state and federal waters off Florida’s Atlantic coast includes a consecutive opening from Oct. 9 through 22, 2026. Other scheduled dates run from late September through early January, including Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s weekends.
Before fishing, private anglers and charter captains must have the required licenses and permits, declare every red snapper trip in the FWC Atlantic Red Snapper Reporting app, and keep their trip declaration and state permit on board.
The recreational limit is one Atlantic red snapper per person, with no minimum size limit. Fish may be taken only by spearfishing or hook-and-line gear with a single hook, and each red snapper counts toward the 10-fish snapper-grouper aggregate bag limit.
