Walt Disney World guests who rely on resort transportation to reach Disney Springs are facing a shrinking set of options this summer. Following a recent crackdown that ended the practice of using Disney Springs buses as a resort-hopping workaround, the resort is now eliminating an additional transportation route to the shopping and dining district.
The Sassagoula River Cruise, a scenic boat service that connected Old Key West Resort to Disney Springs, is being discontinued. The watercraft route had long been a leisurely and popular alternative to bus travel for guests staying at Old Key West.
With both the bus loophole closed and the river cruise route now on the chopping block, Old Key West guests will need to plan on busing directly or arranging other transportation when heading to Disney Springs this summer.
The back-to-back service reductions signal a broader effort by Disney to tighten control over its resort transportation network, particularly as it relates to access to Disney Springs, which is open to the general public and not exclusively ticketed theme-park guests.
