NASA and Boeing have outlined plans to continue development of the Starliner spacecraft, including the agency’s intention to add a fifth and sixth mission carrying crews to and from the International Space Station.
NASA also said it will work with Boeing and United Launch Alliance to certify a new rocket for crew transportation to low Earth orbit. The update follows work by NASA and Boeing to address issues identified during earlier Starliner flights.
Starliner previously carried NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams on its Crew Flight Test mission to the space station. NASA said it remains committed to maintaining multiple options for transporting crews as commercial activity in low Earth orbit expands.
NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman said the agency intends for Starliner to return to flight in support of the space station and future commercial destinations.
