Frontierland looks a little different these days. Less than two months after closing its serving windows for the last time, the Westward Ho refreshment stand at Magic Kingdom has been fully demolished. The structure — rustic Western facade, roof, serving windows and all — has been removed from the Frontierland promenade, leaving an open clearing visible above the brown construction walls that now line the area.
Westward Ho served its final guests on June 21, 2026, when Disney began expanding the construction perimeter for the Piston Peak National Park project. In the weeks that followed, crews pulled down the "Westward Ho Refreshments" sign, gutted the interior, and ultimately razed the entire structure. A large tree near the former stand is still standing, but the site itself is now open, with construction equipment, cables, and orange cones staged behind the barriers. From the opposite side of the walls, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is now visible across the cleared space.
Before it closed, Westward Ho was a popular pit stop for frozen lemonade, cold brew, mini corn dogs, and candied bacon. Nearby popcorn, churro, and ice cream carts were relocated as the construction zone pushed deeper into Frontierland. Big Al's, another Frontierland fixture, is also expected to come down as work progresses along this stretch of the park.
The demolition is part of the broader transformation of the former Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island footprint into Piston Peak National Park, a Cars-inspired land that will feature at least two new attractions — one described as an off-road rally experience through mountainous wilderness, and a second attraction that Disney has not yet detailed. No opening timeline has been announced for either.
