Swan & Dolphin Becomes East Coast's Largest Convention Hotel

The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin has quietly become one of the most significant convention destinations in the country — and a major expansion just made it official. Following a ribbon-cutting ceremony announced on the resort's Facebook page, the Swan and Dolphin complex now holds the title of largest convention hotel on the U.S. Eastern Seaboard.

The new addition brings more than 100,000 square feet of meeting and event space to the property, pushing the resort's combined indoor and outdoor event total past 600,000 square feet. The expansion is divided into three sections: a 38,000-square-foot Upper Peninsula Ballroom, a 40,000-square-foot Lower Peninsula multi-function space, and 38,000 square feet of pre-function area — the kind of generously sized lobby space that lets thousands of conference attendees circulate comfortably between sessions.

This project is the centerpiece of a $275 million renovation, the largest in the property's history. Even before the expansion, the Swan, Dolphin, and Swan Reserve together offered more than 348,000 square feet of meeting space across 99 rooms, nine ballroom options, executive boardrooms, and over 110,000 square feet of contiguous exhibit space. The new wing adds substantially to that already formidable footprint.

Location has always been the resort's ace card for convention business. Situated between EPCOT and Disney's Hollywood Studios — and within easy reach of Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom — the complex lets companies use theme park access as an attendance incentive, turning a three-day work conference into a family vacation for many attendees. For leisure guests, the practical effect of more convention traffic is worth knowing: expect busier weekdays but potentially quieter weekends, since group business tends to clear out by Friday.
