If you were fond of the collectible medallions at the Walt Disney World Railroad station on Main Street, U.S.A., you may want to check your souvenir collection — because what was there is now gone. This week, Walt Disney World quietly swapped out the railroad-themed medallions for a set of standard character designs, marking a notable shift in how the station represents its heritage.
What made the old medallions distinctive was their specificity. Each featured the "Walt Disney World Railroad" insignia alongside a character — Engineer Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Donald Duck, or Minnie Mouse — and each was tied to the actual engine number of a real steam train that runs through Magic Kingdom Park (58444, 42915, 58445, and 60598, respectively). The reverse sides carried railroad branding to match.
The replacement set offers gold and silver medallions with familiar poses of the same four characters, but without any railroad connection. The reverse side now shows Cinderella Castle instead. The change also comes just hours after the removal of a vintage "Metropolis" penny arcade machine from the same station — a one-two punch for guests who appreciate the location's historic train theming.
The medallion swap is part of a broader Walt Disney World effort to modernize pressed-penny and collectible-medallion machines across its parks, hotels, and Disney Springs with newer dispensers featuring digital screens. What sets this particular update apart is that, unlike most of the others, it doesn't preserve any nod to the machine's specific location. As of the day the change was reported, the new Minnie Mouse medallion had already sold out. Disney has not said whether railroad-themed designs might return to the station in the future.
