Drivers heading to Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom area are navigating a noticeably different road layout this summer. A newly completed section of Floridian Way — running between the Magic Kingdom parking lot and the entrance to Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa — is now open to traffic. At the same time, Disney has permanently closed the intersection where Seven Seas Drive once connected with Floridian Way, eliminating a route that guests have used to reach Disney's Polynesian Village Resort since the earliest days of the resort.
The new Floridian Way stretch is currently operating on what will become the southbound lanes, with the northbound side still under construction. Drivers will notice traffic cones and concrete work along the way, but the road is fully passable. Two of three planned roundabouts near the Grand Floridian are already finished, and temporary connector roads with blue directional signage are in place to guide guests toward the Grand Floridian, the Wedding Pavilion, and Island Tower at the Polynesian. Disney is asking drivers to follow posted signs rather than rely on memory or an older GPS route. The full project — Phase III of the World Drive North initiative — is expected to wrap up in late 2027.
The closure of the Seven Seas Drive–Floridian Way intersection is the bigger adjustment for longtime visitors. Concrete barriers now block both directions at that junction, so the shortcut that once let drivers swing directly from Floridian Way onto Seven Seas Drive toward the Polynesian simply no longer exists. Instead, guests driving to the Polynesian — whether for a stay, a dinner reservation at 'Ohana, or a stop at Trader Sam's Grog Grotto — will need to continue to North World Drive and approach the resort's entrance from there.
Disney is recommending that anyone driving a personal vehicle to the Grand Floridian or Polynesian area build in extra travel time, particularly during busy arrival windows. Guests using the resort's monorail, bus, or watercraft services won't be affected, as these changes apply only to personal vehicle traffic. A South Florida Water Management District permit has also been approved for expanded parking at the Grand Floridian, signaling that this stretch of the resort is in for continued change alongside broader Magic Kingdom-area growth projects like Beyond Big Thunder.
