Fourteen years after the beloved Jaws attraction closed at Universal Studios Florida, Universal City Studios filed a new trademark application for Jaws (1975) on September 3, 2026. The filing — registered under Serial Number #50089372 — covers a broad range of entertainment services, but two categories have caught the attention of Universal Orlando fans in particular: "amusement park attraction" and "theme park services."
The application also covers organizing entertainment events and exhibits, production and distribution of drama and horror films, and on-demand and rental film services. Universal has not announced any plans for a new Jaws attraction, and the broad scope of the filing means the trademark could be put to use in any number of ways that have nothing to do with a theme park ride.
Still, the timing has fans paying close attention. Universal Studios Florida currently has an open redevelopment opportunity following the permanent closure of Fast & Furious: Supercharged, which previously occupied a large space at the park. The original Jaws ride — which took guests through Amity aboard a boat before a close encounter with the great white — closed in January 2012 and was eventually replaced by The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley. Over at Islands of Adventure, The Lost Continent is also being cleared away, with demolition already underway in portions of the land, opening another significant footprint for potential new experiences.
Jaws isn't the only classic property in the conversation for those spaces. Ghostbusters, Twister, Back to the Future, and — based on fan speculation and rumors — franchises like The Lord of the Rings, Pokémon, and The Legend of Zelda have all been mentioned in connection with Islands of Adventure's future. None of those has been officially confirmed either, and Universal has not announced what will fill either vacant area.
