After roughly six months of construction, Walt Disney World Resort is giving guests their first real peek at the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror's freshly repainted facade. Scaffolding near the gift shop and attraction exit — the very spot where work began — has been partially removed, revealing a stretch of newly finished exterior for the first time.
The refurbishment traces back to a construction permit that surfaced in March. Through the spring and summer, crews worked their way across the Hollywood Tower Hotel facade, eventually reaching the top of the building — where the ride's signature elevator shafts are housed — just recently. Along the way, Disney removed flags above the gift shop and wrapped decorative elements in protective scrim before the first scaffolding went up in July.
What's visible so far is a fresh coat of pink paint, deliberately aged to maintain the building's iconic haunted-hotel look. Crews applied a base coat first, then added layers designed to mimic weathering and cracking. Sharp-eyed guests can also spot small patches where yellow paint shows through beneath the pink, hinting at how the rest of the facade may look once the remaining scaffolding comes down.
One thing that hasn't changed: the ride itself has stayed open throughout the entire project. Walt Disney World has not announced any plans to close the attraction for interior work, so guests can still drop thirteen stories even as the outside gets its makeover.
