Animal Kingdom's long-awaited Tropical Americas expansion may not arrive as soon as fans had hoped. Walt Disney World recently updated its Coming to the Parks page to remove the 2027 opening year that had previously been attached to the project — and the new description carries no date at all. Disney has not formally announced a delay, but the omission is hard to miss, especially since the 2027 reference still lingers on an older Disney Parks Blog post.
The 11-acre land, officially called Pueblo Esperanza, is replacing the former DinoLand U.S.A. site and will introduce two new attractions: Antonio's Fiesta de Encanto, an Encanto-themed ride that sends guests through the iconic Casita, and Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent, which repurposes the existing DINOSAUR ride system inside a reimagined ancient Maya temple. Rounding out the land are El Carrusel de los Animalitos — a carousel featuring 22 hand-carved creatures inspired by Disney and Pixar films — new dining in a converted hacienda-style restaurant, a central fountain plaza, and themed play areas.
Construction is clearly moving at a serious pace. The enormous show building for the Encanto attraction is largely enclosed, decorative temple facade sections for the Indiana Jones ride were lifted into place in September, and the carousel's roof structure is now mostly covered. That visible progress makes the date uncertainty more puzzling for fans watching every crane movement.
A phased opening is one scenario that would fit the current situation. Disney is already planning to debut Monstropolis at Hollywood Studios in stages, and Pueblo Esperanza could follow a similar approach — opening the carousel, restaurant, and plaza first, with the headline attractions following later. If the full land slips to 2028, it would extend a difficult stretch for Animal Kingdom guests, who have already lost both DINOSAUR and TriceraTop Spin during the redevelopment. The park's family-friendly ride lineup is noticeably thinner in the meantime, though Kilimanjaro Safaris, Na'vi River Journey, Festival of the Lion King, and the wildlife trails remain open.
