Guests visiting Disney's Hollywood Studios this summer will notice a growing web of scaffolding wrapping around The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Work crews first put up staging on the far right of the facade — above the gift shop area — in early July, and the coverage has been expanding ever since.
Through the rest of July, scaffolding spread across that right-side wall and then moved to the front of the building. As of the most recent update, it has continued to push out past the far left side of the structure, beyond the drop shaft itself.
The good news for thrill-seekers: the ride is still running normally. The scaffolding hasn't crept into the elevator shaft windows, so the attraction's dramatic view effects remain intact for riders.
The exterior work is part of a broader refurbishment effort that has been underway for several months. A queue refurbishment launched in early May, and later that same month, flags were removed from the gift shop exit while scrim was added to conceal some facade details.
