Guests visiting Disney's Hollywood Studios right now will notice The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror wrapped in scaffolding — and it's not just for show. A repainting project is officially underway on the beloved attraction's facade, with crews working their way across the building since earlier this summer.
Scaffolding first appeared on the far right side of the building above the gift shop, then gradually expanded along that wall before reaching the front. As of early August, a wide band of scaffolding stretches across the bottom of the facade, and a taller central section rises nearly to the Hollywood Tower Hotel sign — though it stops short of blocking the elevator windows guests love to spot from outside.
Work is already visible above the gift shop, where a pair of decorative friezes on the center roof have been primed in gray and white, stripping away the building's signature weathered look in those spots. The edge of that roofline and the wall of the right balcony appear to have been primed as well. Black tarp has been taped over decorative windows behind the scaffolding to protect them during paint work, and plastic sheeting is visible across the center wall.
The good news for thrill-seekers: the ride itself continues to operate normally throughout the exterior work. This refurbishment follows a queue refresh that began in early May, and the removal of flags near the gift shop exit shortly after. The project appears to be a thorough sprucing-up of one of Hollywood Studios' most recognizable landmarks.
