The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney's Hollywood Studios is mid-makeover, and the transformation is becoming hard to miss. Scaffolding that has been creeping across the Hollywood Tower Hotel facade all summer has now reached the front of the building, wrapping around the elevator shafts just below the structure's signature lettering.
Crews have already made visible progress on the section near the gift shop, where a gray-and-white primer coat has been applied to the roof and a faux balcony wall. Decorative windows in that area are currently shielded behind black tarps while painting continues on the surrounding surfaces.
The freshly painted sections offer a preview of where the building's look is headed — and it's notably brighter. The newly coated areas show a cleaner, more saturated pink compared to the intentionally distressed, weathered appearance the attraction has carried since it opened in 1994. Importantly, that aged character isn't gone forever; the distressing treatment simply hasn't been applied to those sections yet, meaning guests are currently seeing an in-between stage of the process.
For anyone worried about the ride itself: the attraction remains fully operational, and the drop sequence windows still give riders an unobstructed aerial view of Disney's Hollywood Studios. Walt Disney World has not announced any closure related to the refurbishment work, which so far has been confined entirely to the building's exterior.
