More scaffolding has been removed from the exterior of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, marking the latest visible step in a months-long refresh of the attraction’s Hollywood Tower Hotel facade.
According to WDWNT, scaffolding came down September 29 from an area on the right side of the building, above the attraction exit and gift shop. Yellow patches that had been visible there earlier in the month have since been painted to match the hotel’s deliberately aged pink exterior.
The work began after Walt Disney World filed a construction permit earlier this year. Disney refreshed portions of the outdoor queue in May, then installed protective scrim and scaffolding around decorative facade elements. The scaffolding eventually extended across the front of the nearly 200-foot-tall building and along the elevator-shaft area.
The exterior repainting appears intended to preserve Tower of Terror’s weathered, abandoned-hotel look rather than substantially change its design. Disney has not announced a completion date for the project.
