If you've noticed a bit more construction equipment framing the skyline at Disney's Hollywood Studios lately, you're not imagining things. Scaffolding around the Hollywood Tower Hotel — home to The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror — has expanded to cover much of the back of the building, stretching from top to bottom.
The good news for fans of the legendary drop attraction: the ride itself remains fully operational while crews work on the exterior. Guests can still check in for their "final" elevator ride even as the refurbishment progresses around them.
Exterior refurbishments like this are a routine part of keeping older attractions looking sharp in Florida's demanding climate, and the Hollywood Tower Hotel's distinctive Art Deco facade is certainly worth preserving. The front of the structure had already seen scaffolding in earlier phases of the project, and work has now wrapped around to the rear.
