Tampa's weekend calendar for August 7–9 is stacked from Thursday night through Sunday afternoon. Jobsite Theater at the Straz Center kicks things off with American Idiot, the two-time Tony Award-winning rock musical built around Green Day's catalog, running Thursday through Sunday at various times. If stomping along to folk-rock anthems in an arena is more your speed, Mumford & Sons bring their Prizefighter Tour to Benchmark International Arena on Friday at 7:30 p.m., with support from Medium Build.
Friday evening also brings the monthly First Friday in the Heights Art Walk (6–10 p.m., free admission), with stops at local spots including The Disco Dolls, Tiger Dust, Sea Maids Creamery, and others offering live painting, tarot readings, DIY button making, and a new art installation. Night owls can cap Friday at The Ritz Ybor's Old School Reggaeton Party, running 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. with DJs spinning classic dembow-era hits.
Saturday is particularly full. The Motor Enclave hosts a 21+ pool party aptly named -196° Pool Party (6–10 p.m.), featuring cryo guns over the pool, ice luges, cooling fans, and DJ Nugget spinning house music — tickets start at $20 with a seltzer included, limited to 150 guests. For something more laid-back, Tampa drummer and composer Paul Gavin brings a celebration of Duke Ellington and Count Basie to the Carrollwood Cultural Center at 7:30 p.m. The Tampa Noles Block Party takes over Ybor City's Italian Club from 2–6 p.m. as an FSU-themed 21+ fundraiser, with general admission at $30 and a VIP option at $100.
Families will want to note the Tampa Brick Fan Event at the Florida State Fairgrounds Entertainment Hall on Saturday and Sunday — the fourth annual LEGO fan experience includes massive builds, RC racing, a STEM zone, a bridge-building competition, and a magician. Saturday runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday wraps at 4 p.m., and children under 3 get in free. Also on Saturday, Project LINK's final Back-2-School Health Clinic session at South University (9 a.m.–noon) offers no-cost physicals and immunizations for eligible children for a $10 family registration fee — appointments are required and spots are limited.
