Whether you're chasing thrills or something a little more surreal, the greater Tampa Bay area has no shortage of things to do this weekend. Here's a rundown of six events worth putting on your radar.
The Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg kicks off Friday evening with Dome After Dark: Surreal Nature, a 360-degree immersive experience wrapping you in sweeping waterfalls, blooming flora, and close-up wildlife. The show runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at 1 Dalí Blvd. Tickets are $25 for museum members and $29 for non-members. Also on Friday night, head to Lowry Parcade in Tampa (1213 W Waters Ave) for Artists in Wonderland, an Alice in Wonderland–themed art pop-up and market running 8–11 p.m. Local artists, DJ Acidbitter, and $8 unlimited arcade credits round out the experience — costumes are encouraged.
On Saturday, the FloridaRAMA venue in St. Petersburg (2606 Fairfield Ave. S.) hosts a live recording of the Monkeys to Mermaids: The Florida Spectacular Podcast, a celebration of all things wonderfully weird about Old Florida — from the Silver Springs monkeys to mermaid lore — from 6 to 8 p.m. And if you're in Sarasota, the Sarasota Art Museum (1226 N Tamiami Trail) is showing Beautiful Ideas: The Prints of Sol LeWitt through October, spotlighting the conceptual artist's geometric printmaking work. General admission is $20.
Monster truck fans have four chances to catch Monster Jam Freestyle Mania at Benchmark International Arena (401 Channelside Drive, Tampa), with shows running Friday through Sunday — the first at 7 p.m. Friday and the last at 1 p.m. Sunday. Monster Jam trucks and Freestyle Motocross riders share the floor for a full-throttle freestyle competition. Finally, the Gulfport Night Market returns to Beach Boulevard (3101 Beach Blvd, Gulfport) on Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m., bringing together local makers, artists, and small businesses for an evening of handmade arts and crafts.
