More than 100 men aboard Royal Caribbean’s Star of the Seas wound up in matching red Hawaiian-style shirts after their partners and relatives coordinated a large-scale cruise prank, according to Cruisemummy.
The men had each been persuaded to wear the distinctive shirt before heading to The Pearl, the multistory feature in the ship’s Royal Promenade. What first looked like a coincidence became clear as more passengers wearing the same shirt arrived.
The plan was organized in advance, with families keeping the shared outfit choice secret from the men until they began encountering one another onboard. Eventually, more than 100 participants gathered at The Pearl.
Matching-shirt surprises have become a familiar passenger-organized cruise activity, often planned through sailing-specific social media groups before a voyage. Similar gatherings have appeared on Disney Cruise Line ships, including one involving more than 60 men in matching Hawaiian-style Disney shirts in July 2025, Cruisemummy reported.
Star of the Seas, one of the world’s largest cruise ships, offers a particularly large pool of passengers for a coordinated onboard reveal. The joke depended on each family getting its participant into the same red shirt without giving away the reason.
