September brought a wide range of community moments to St. Johns County, from major concerts in St. Augustine to new businesses, civic projects and youth events.
James Taylor performed two sold-out shows at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre on Sept. 22 and 23. The month also included Sing Out Loud Festival programming, including singer-songwriter performances in downtown St. Augustine and a new series of late-night Amp After Parties at Ponce De Le Rollin roller rink.
In the local arts scene, Nikki and Eric Rakov opened Rakov Studio Gallery in the San Sebastian Art District, while La Casa Studios began exclusively representing St. Augustine artist Obadiah “Obie” Hunter.
Community and public-service updates included the Sept. 18 ribbon cutting for St. Augustine’s Court Theophelia Flood Mitigation Project and the Sept. 22 opening of Baptist Health’s emergency room at its 33.6-acre SilverLeaf Medical Campus. Habitat for Humanity of St. Johns County and the City of St. Augustine also agreed to share the cost of sewer infrastructure expansion for the planned Cypress Village.
Elsewhere, the Women’s Food Alliance-sponsored Kids Can Cook Baking Contest brought 12 young bakers, ages 8 to 13, to The Venue in Hastings. Flagler College was ranked No. 1 in the South among Regional and Private Regional Colleges in U.S. News & World Report’s 2027 Best Colleges rankings.
The month’s photo collection also documented local dining changes, including Catch 27’s appointment of Executive Chef Sebastian Sikora and new menu items at the downtown St. Augustine restaurant.
