Disney's Animal Kingdom has a new set of eco-friendly additions along the Maharajah Jungle Trek: two pairs of green solar-powered trash cans and recycling bins, installed in the popular walkway-style attraction. The bins join similar solar-powered cans that have been popping up at Walt Disney World since early June 2026, including at the park's front entrance.
Each unit is topped with a solar panel that powers a built-in trash compactor, helping reduce how often the cans need to be emptied. Guests can open the lids either by hand or by pressing a foot pedal — a feature that has apparently caused enough head-scratching that Disney put together an instructional video to help visitors figure it out.
The design gets a Maharajah-appropriate touch: the side of each can features a red triangle graphic with a tiger at the center and clouds in the corners, tying the utilitarian bins into the area's theming. Walt Disney Imagineering has been involved in the design process to keep the new cans visually consistent with existing park waste receptacles.
The rollout reflects Walt Disney World's ongoing effort to modernize behind-the-scenes infrastructure while keeping the guest-facing look on-brand. Whether more areas of the resort will see the solar bins installed next isn't yet confirmed.
