Walt Disney Imagineering is leaning all the way into the lore for this year's D23, teasing a mystery reveal tied to the beloved fictional organization known as the Society of Explorers and Adventurers (S.E.A.). An Instagram post from Imagineering, framed as a notice pinned to a tree, introduced fans to Bonnie Booker, a fictional S.E.A. archivist who announced that a sealed, century-old crate is headed to the convention — contents unknown, even to the people who sent it.
The crate was delivered by the Jungle Navigation Company, the fictional river-expedition outfit connected to Jungle Cruise lore and founded by the storied Dr. Albert Falls. In Disney's storytelling universe, the Jungle Navigation Company ties directly into S.E.A. and even inspired the Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen restaurant in Adventureland at Magic Kingdom.
S.E.A. itself is an Imagineering creation that acts as a connective thread across numerous Disney parks worldwide — linking attractions like Mystic Manor at Hong Kong Disneyland, Tower of Terror at Tokyo DisneySea, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and Jungle Cruise under one sprawling fictional mythology. For the past three months, Booker's character has reportedly been cataloguing S.E.A.'s archives, turning up items like Greek amphoras linked to Lord Henry Mystic and sarcophagi attributed to the notorious Harrison Hightower III.
On August 14, Walt Disney Imagineering will host a panel at D23 titled "An Inside Look at the Society of Explorers and Adventurers," where the crate will be opened and a "newly rediscovered" artifact revealed live with the audience. Disney has framed this summer as a broader push to share more about S.E.A.'s history and the adventurers who make up its ranks.
