If you've been anxious about what charging gear to pack for your Royal Caribbean sailing, the cruise line has quietly made things a lot clearer. After banning multi-plug outlets in 2024 — a move that frustrated many guests dealing with cabin outlet shortages — Royal Caribbean has now spelled out exactly what is and isn't allowed.
The updated guidance, which appeared on the Royal Caribbean mobile app, states that electrical extension cords, traditional multi-plug outlets, and power strips remain prohibited due to the ships' power system configurations. However, a single plug (110v or 220v) with up to four USB-A or USB-C outlets is perfectly fine to bring aboard, provided it carries a recognized international safety certification.
In practical terms, that means you can still solve the cabin outlet crunch — you just need to be a bit more selective about the device you pack. Compact USB multi-port chargers that meet certification standards are widely available and often cost under $10. European power adapters are another solid option, since many Royal Caribbean cabins include European-style outlets alongside standard ones.
Guests sailing on older vessels — such as Vision of the Seas, Liberty of the Seas, or Oasis of the Seas — may also want to consider a portable power bank, since those ships tend to place their outlets at the vanity rather than the bedside. Newer ships in the fleet have begun adding bedside outlets, so the issue is gradually being addressed fleet-wide.
