Construction on Magic Kingdom's Piston Peak National Park expansion is reaching a new milestone: crews are now assembling a tower crane at the Frontierland job site. A large mobile crane was brought in to lift sections of the blue tower crane into place, with the permanent crane positioned near the center of the construction footprint.
The groundwork for this moment has been in progress for a while — the tower's concrete foundation was poured and its base was installed back in July. The blue boxy base support structure is now visible surrounded by that concrete foundation.
Elsewhere on the site, scaffolding that had been covering the Frontierland boardwalk came down around the same time. The boardwalk had been fully blocked by construction walls just a week prior, so its reappearance is a small but notable change in the landscape for guests passing nearby.
Piston Peak National Park is a Cars-themed land taking shape in the former home of the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island. When complete, the expansion will feature two new attractions: Cars Ridge Run Rally and Miss Fritter's Daredevil Spin Along. Fans planning a future Walt Disney World visit will want to keep an eye on this one as the skyline continues to change.
