If you've got a habit of reaching for the hot sauce during a stop at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe in Frontierland, your next visit may feel a little different. Walt Disney World has replaced Tabasco with Tapatío as the house hot sauce at the popular Magic Kingdom quick-service spot — and Tapatío is currently the only option on offer.
It's not just a Pecos Bill thing, either. The same swap has been spotted at ABC Commissary over in Disney's Hollywood Studios, suggesting Disney is rolling out the change across the broader resort rather than testing it at a single location. The shift appears connected, at least in part, to Disney's expanding relationship with Kraft Heinz, which was announced in July. While Tapatío isn't a Heinz brand, the two companies share a distribution relationship, and new Heinz condiment dispensers have already begun appearing at Disney properties including Disneyland Resort and Disney Cruise Line.
For guests who care about the difference: Tabasco leans on distilled vinegar, red peppers, and salt for its sharp, vinegar-forward bite, while Tapatío brings in garlic, spices, and water alongside the peppers — producing a noticeably thicker sauce with a rounder flavor. They're not really interchangeable, so longtime regulars may want to know ahead of time.
The condiment change lands during a period of sweeping transformation in Frontierland. The Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and the Liberty Belle Riverboat all closed permanently in 2025 to make way for Piston Peak National Park, a Cars-inspired wilderness-themed area. Disney Villains Land — featuring two major attractions plus dining and shopping — is also on the way to this corner of Magic Kingdom. Meanwhile, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which closed for an extensive refurbishment in January 2025, finally reopened in May 2026, with the revamp including the return of Rainbow Caverns.
