About 2,000 walkers, caregivers, families, volunteers and community supporters gathered at Lake Eola Park in downtown Orlando for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s - Orlando, according to ClickOrlando.
The event was held at the Walt Disney Amphitheater and included the walk’s Promise Garden ceremony. Participants carried color-coded flowers representing their personal connections to Alzheimer’s disease, honoring loved ones living with the disease and remembering those who have died.
Organized by the Alzheimer’s Association, the Orlando event was one of more than 600 Walk to End Alzheimer’s gatherings held annually in communities across the country. The walks raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research programs.
The Alzheimer’s Association also offers a free, confidential 24/7 helpline staffed by dementia experts at 800-272-3900, with support and local-resource assistance available in more than 200 languages.
