Whether you're a local looking to make the most of the long weekend or a visitor squeezing in one last summer hurrah, Orlando has something going on every day from Saturday, Sept. 5 through Monday, Sept. 7.
Saturday kicks off with a morning gardening workshop at UF/IFAS Extension Orange County, where you can learn the basics of planting a fall garden from 9 a.m. to noon. Later that afternoon, Orlando Festival Park hosts the Afro Food Fest — a noon-to-7 p.m. celebration featuring live entertainment, food, fashion, diverse vendors, and the always-spirited Jollof Rice Competition. Night owls can head downtown to The Beacham on N. Orange Avenue for Electric Feels, an indie rock and electronic dance party running 9 to 11 p.m.
Sunday brings a classic Orlando morning: the Labor Day 5K circles the shaded, scenic path around Lake Baldwin at Harbor Park starting at 8 a.m. — welcoming both seasoned runners and first-timers. Afterward, the long-running Orlando Farmers Market at Lake Eola Park (open since 1987) offers fresh finds from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Monday's highlights are worth saving your energy for. Harry P. Leu Gardens will offer free daytime admission and outdoor story time for families. Astro Skate of Orlando hosts a Labor Day skate session starting at 1 p.m., with free food during the first hour. And for a sophisticated close to the weekend, the Labor Day Jazz Festival at the Timucua Arts Foundation features saxophonist Eric Alexander — a $50 ticket covers a 3–5 p.m. cookout and beer, followed by performances at 7 and 9 p.m. The Audubon Park Community Market, a neighborhood outdoor market with fresh produce and handmade goods, also wraps up the day starting at 5 p.m.
