Fans of the 1988 Disney classic Oliver & Company have a new reason to linger in the Animation Courtyard at Disney's Hollywood Studios. A charming new statue duo — Oliver the orange tabby kitten perched atop Dodger, a long-haired Jack Russell Terrier sporting a red bandana — has joined the growing collection of animal figures dotting the courtyard's grass area.
The pair are posed in a moment very true to the film: both are eyeing a sculpted hot dog topped with a squiggle of mustard. It's the kind of small, storytelling detail that rewards guests who take a closer look. The statues sit near a bench, making the spot a natural photo opportunity.
Oliver & Company is a musical retelling of Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist set against a New York City backdrop, with an iconic soundtrack featuring the voices of Billy Joel, Bette Midler, and Huey Lewis.
The statues arrive as the Animation Courtyard area continues to come alive ahead of a bigger milestone: The Magic of Disney Animation is set to open on September 14. That attraction will feature a new Animation Academy experience hosted by Olaf as well as six new character meet-and-greets — a significant update to one of the Studios' most storied spaces.
