Disney's Hollywood Studios is getting a whole new land, and details about Monstropolis are coming into clearer focus. Announced at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, the Monsters, Inc.-themed area is confirmed to open sometime in 2027 — though an exact date hasn't been set. One notable caveat: the land's headline attraction, a first-of-its-kind suspended roller coaster called the Door Coaster, will not be ready when the land first opens, and its timeline remains unannounced.
On the entertainment side, the former Muppet*Vision 3D building will be transformed into the Glob Theater, home to a new show called "Welcome to Monstropolis." Mike and Sulley will serve as hosts, and the show will feature an original song by Randy Newman — his first composition written specifically for a Disney park. Walt Disney Imagineering VP Chris Beatty teased that Mike has "a few surprises up his sleeve" that he hopes will "bring down the house — hopefully not literally."
Hungry visitors will have two spots to choose from. Archie's Scare Pig Pizza will be a quick-service option offering pizza, themed around Ear Tech's six-legged mascot. The table-service option, Harryhausen's, draws its name from the sushi restaurant featured in the original film and promises "a menu unlike anything else," along with a full animatronic of the Chef. Guests looking for souvenirs can stop into The Scareporium, the land's dedicated retail location.
Construction on Monstropolis is already well underway inside Hollywood Studios, and Disney has indicated more details will be revealed as the project progresses.
