Guests who enjoy catching Vacation Fun — An Original Animated Short with Mickey & Minnie at Disney's Hollywood Studios will need to pencil in a rain check. Walt Disney World Resort has confirmed that Mickey Shorts Theater will close on August 9, 2026, with no specific reopening date attached beyond a general promise that the Echo Lake venue will return before the end of the year.
The closure isn't purely a refurbishment situation. Just two days after the theater goes dark, on August 11, the space will begin serving a different purpose entirely: distributing a free Kermit the Frog-themed magnet to Annual Passholders. That giveaway runs through September 24, or while supplies last, suggesting Walt Disney World Resort needs that brief August 9–11 window to reconfigure the space for the pickup operation.
What comes after September 24 remains an open question. The resort hasn't confirmed whether Mickey Shorts Theater will resume regular showings immediately once the magnet distribution wraps, nor has it said whether Vacation Fun — which has been the featured film there since 2020 — will still be on the bill when the venue eventually relights.
This kind of temporary reassignment is familiar territory for the theater. Earlier in 2026, it closed in April and came back in May after being used as a merchandise distribution hub during May the Fourth festivities. A separate month-long refurbishment in 2024 addressed problems with the theater doors. In other words, Hollywood Studios regulars have seen this playbook before — the venue tends to find its way back.
