Miami-area families have a mix of arts, science, music and seasonal outings on the calendar this October, including several free events and activities that require advance RSVPs.
At the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science, The Science Behind Pixar opens October 10 and runs through April 11, 2027. The exhibition explores animation and filmmaking technology through more than 50 interactive activities, with characters and films including Toy Story, Finding Nemo and Monsters, Inc. represented. Admission is $24.95 to $29.95, while children younger than 3 enter free.
Also on October 10, Bookleggers will hold its fifth Adventure Leggers program, themed “Unsolved Mysteries,” outside Bakehouse Art Complex in Miami. The free, RSVP-required event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes more than 20 book- and creativity-centered activities, along with storytimes, magic shows and free books. Children and teens 18 and under must attend with a parent or chaperone.
That evening, Live En La Playa brings free music, a record fair and hands-on art and pin-making workshops to Lummus Park at Sixth Street and Ocean Drive in Miami Beach. Spam Allstars and Tony & The Kings are scheduled to perform, with the event running from 6 to 11 p.m. Attendees are asked to RSVP and can bring blankets or lawn chairs for the grass.
For a fall outing, Tinez Farms in southwest Miami is operating its annual pumpkin patch Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visitors can pick pumpkins, visit and feed animals, take a hayride or Cow Barrel Train ride, and use attractions including zip lines and bounce houses. Tickets are $16 to $18.
Families seeking Halloween-themed entertainment can visit House of Horror Haunted Carnival at Tropical Park. Alongside haunted houses and scare zones, the event has a separate House of Little Horrors area with a kid-friendly maze, rides and seasonal photo opportunities for younger visitors. It is closed September 28 and October 5; hours are 6 to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 6 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.
For a one-day theater option, Clifford the Big Red Dog: The Musical is set for 1 p.m. October 4 at The Parker in Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $23.60, and all theatergoers need tickets, though lap tickets are available through the box office for children 12 months and younger.
