If you have a soft spot for the Walt Disney World Railroad, you may want to know that the souvenir medallion machine at Magic Kingdom's train station has quietly shed its railroad identity. The machine itself remains in place, but it's been updated with the new colored medallions and touchscreen interface that Disney has been rolling out across the resort.
The outgoing designs had a real sense of place: bronze-toned medallions embossed with the "Walt Disney World Railroad" name, each pairing one of four classic characters with the actual locomotive number they were associated with — Mickey as an engineer alongside engine 58444, Minnie with 60598, Goofy with 42915, and Donald with 58445. They were a natural fit for the landmark location at the park's entrance.
The new lineup trades that railroad charm for the resort's standard Fab Five character set. Mickey and Minnie now appear on gold medallions in their signature poses, while Donald and Goofy get silver versions. The reverse side of all four features Cinderella Castle surrounded by stars and the Walt Disney World wordmark — the same back design found on medallions throughout the property.
One practical note for collectors: at the time of the visit, the Minnie medallion was already showing as sold out at the machine, so availability may vary. Whether the shift to generic designs feels like a missed opportunity or simply a sign of the times likely depends on how much you love the railroad itself.
