Getting to Magic Kingdom will look a little different starting August 10, when Walt Disney World shifts traffic onto a newly completed stretch of Floridian Way. The change is part of the ongoing World Drive North improvement project, which has been gradually reshaping the roads between the Magic Kingdom parking lot and the resort's nearby hotels.
Under the updated pattern, drivers traveling between the parking lot and Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa will be routed along freshly built southbound lanes of Floridian Way while construction crews get to work on the permanent northbound side. New lane markings and directional signs are already in place ahead of the official switch, so guests may spot the changes before they go into effect.
The August 10 shift also sets the stage for the next construction milestone: once traffic moves to the new roadway, workers will begin building the third and final roundabout closer to the Magic Kingdom parking lot. Two of the three planned roundabouts are already finished. Temporary connector roads are in place to keep access open to the Grand Floridian, the Wedding Pavilion, and Island Tower at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort in the meantime.
Guests should also be aware of a permanent change already in effect: the intersection linking Seven Seas Drive and Floridian Way has been closed for good, meaning Disney's Polynesian Village Resort is now reached via World Drive North instead. Signage throughout the construction zone is being updated regularly, so watching for posted directions is the best way to stay on track.
