Fresh aerial photographs taken by photographer bioreconstruct offer the clearest look yet at just how dramatically Magic Kingdom's eastern side has been transformed. The combined construction zone for Piston Peak National Park and Villains Land now stretches from the former Rivers of America deep into what was once the park's backstage, dominating the right half of the park when viewed from above.
Where the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island once sat, crews have graded the land flat, dug excavated pits, and laid out temporary roadways and staged materials. A tower crane has recently gone up near the center of the Piston Peak site, with foundation work concentrating around the area near The Haunted Mansion and the old Liberty Square Riverboat landing. A new waterway is planned to run between Piston Peak and Liberty Square and Frontierland, preserving some waterfront character even after the Rivers of America's removal. Over near Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, a visual barrier now shields ongoing excavation and utility work along the attraction's outer perimeter.
The aerial views also captured a large staging area at the upper edge of the construction zone that bioreconstruct noted could one day serve as an expansion pad — though Disney has made no announcement about its intended purpose. Transplanted mature trees from the former Rivers of America landscape are being stored in this area and may eventually be replanted inside Piston Peak National Park. Elsewhere, the remnants of an old backstage steamboat dock — once used to store a second vessel on slower attendance days — are still faintly visible within what will become the Villains Land site, where earthmoving and utility work remain the dominant activity.
Beyond the park itself, the photographs captured a new multi-story office building rising backstage behind Adventureland along the service canal, and showed the reconfigured section of Floridian Way that has rerouted vehicle access around the resort's northern end following the permanent closure of the former Floridian Way and Seven Seas Drive intersection earlier this summer.

Piston Peak National Park is planned to include two attractions — Cars Ridge Run Rally and Miss Fritter's Daredevil Spin-Along — set within an American West landscape of forests, geysers, and mountain scenery inspired by the Cars films. Villains Land, situated farther into the former backstage, will center on Disney's classic animated villains and include two major attractions along with dining and retail. Disney has not announced opening dates for either area. This report is based on coverage by WDW News Today.
