Royal Caribbean has long made entertainment a signature of the cruise experience, but fans who step aboard the line's newest ship, Legend of the Seas, won't find a single comedy show on the schedule — a notable first for the brand. The ship, which is currently sailing the Mediterranean and is set to reposition to Fort Lauderdale, Florida this November, is packed with other entertainment options, including the first-ever America's Got Talent live show at sea, a Roald Dahl musical, an AquaTheater production, and an ice show in what the line calls the largest ice arena at sea.
The absence of comedy isn't just about the missing dedicated club. On other ships where comedy clubs were converted to casino space — starting with the Oasis Class vessels — the shows were simply moved to the Royal Theater. On Legend, the comedy club space was repurposed into a specialty restaurant called Royal Railway Legend Station, and the shows were not relocated anywhere else on the ship. Both Icon of the Seas and Star of the Seas still have dedicated comedy clubs, making Legend of the Seas an outlier among the newer fleet.
The shift may extend beyond Legend. A reader of Royal Caribbean Blog shared an email from an officer aboard Allure of the Seas confirming that ship has also ended its adult comedy show, with the message acknowledging passenger disappointment while pointing to Broadway productions, ice shows, and AquaTheater performances as alternatives still on offer.
A Royal Caribbean spokesperson told Royal Caribbean Blog that comedy programming is "itinerary and ship dependent," and noted that Legend will have comedy acts on its transatlantic sailing. The line's Vice President of Entertainment, Christine Coachman, has previously spoken enthusiastically about comedy, noting that close to 1,300 of the fleet's roughly 5,400 annual headliner bookings are comedians. Whether comedy returns to Legend's regular rotation once it arrives in North America remains to be seen.
