If you've been wondering just how deep Universal Orlando Resort has gone with the Jurassic Park River Adventure refurbishment, a new set of aerial photos answers the question pretty dramatically. Captured by aerial photographer and X user @bioreconstruct on September 13, 2026, the images show key outdoor sections of the ride largely dismantled, drained, and mid-reconstruction.
The ride has been closed since January 5, 2026, with a return to operation currently scheduled for November 20, 2026. Early in the closure, fans speculated the attraction might be rebranded to match Jurassic World: The Ride — the version Universal Studios Hollywood debuted in 2019 — but Universal Orlando has never confirmed or denied those rumors. The summer's aerial documentation suggests the work is focused on restoring the existing Jurassic Park theming rather than overhauling the ride's identity.
The photos show a partially disassembled dinosaur animatronic in Ultrasaur Lagoon, an emptied Stegosaur Springs section, the dry Paddock Bay scene, and the splash and unload areas. @bioreconstruct also photographed the panels at the base of the ride's signature 85-foot drop — the mechanism responsible for that signature burst of water spray — as well as a video sweep of the entire visible outdoor construction zone.
The scope of the project reflects the ride's age. Jurassic Park River Adventure originally opened in 1999, and its audio-animatronic systems need consistent upkeep to stay safe and functional. Water-based rides naturally accumulate more wear than indoor dry attractions, and the partially outdoor layout of this one makes weathering an ongoing factor as well.
