A brand-new cultural festival in a small Central Florida city made a big impression on its first try. The inaugural Japan Festival Eustis, held March 28, 2026, in historic downtown Eustis, welcomed more than 8,200 visitors for a day of Japanese music, traditional arts, martial-arts demonstrations, food and family programming.
The event came home with four statewide honors: a Bronze VISIT FLORIDA Flagler Award for Best New Event, plus three second-place Florida Festivals & Events Association SUNsational Awards in the categories of Best New Event, Community Outreach, and PR/Media — a strong showing for any festival's first outing.
The festival was presented by Arching Oaks Japanese Arts & Culture Center, a volunteer-operated nonprofit that operates a 20-acre campus in Eustis offering Japanese arts workshops, language instruction, tea and incense programs, Japanese garden experiences and martial-arts training through Florida Budokan. The City of Eustis provided police, fire, public-works and logistical support, and the event drew representatives from local, state and Japanese diplomatic organizations.
Given the response, organizers are already planning a bigger follow-up. Japan Festival Eustis will return to downtown Eustis as a two-day celebration on Saturday and Sunday, March 20–21, 2027, with additional performances, demonstrations, vendors and family activities. Details on performers, participating organizations, sponsorship opportunities and vendor registration are expected in the coming months.
