Jacksonville’s Sept. 25-27 weekend calendar includes everything from hometown-connected indie rock to a major NFL matchup. Fernandina Beach five-piece flipturn will play the St. Augustine Amphitheatre at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, with tickets listed from $60 to $105.
Also beginning Friday, Ancient City Con takes over the World Golf Village Renaissance Resort. The three-day gathering includes appearances by cast members from Star Trek: Voyager and Starship Troopers, cosplay contests, workshops, jam sessions and a celebration of Tim Curry featuring The Rocky Horror Picture Show co-star Barry Bostwick. Admission is listed from $42 to $70.
Classical music fans can hear the Jacksonville Symphony in Jacoby Symphony Hall on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Guest pianist Evren Ozel will perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 22, while the program also includes selections from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, conducted by Courtney Lewis. The concerts follow updates to the hall including new seating, carpeting and acoustic shelves.
Saturday brings free Jazz on the Avenue from 3 to 9 p.m. at 822 A. Philip Randolph Blvd., expanding the Melanin Market with live jazz, artists, crafters, vendors, workshops and jazz jam sessions.
