Jacksonville families have one last shot at summer fun before area public schools head back to the classroom, and the calendar is surprisingly full. Jaguars fans can catch the team at Miller Electric Center multiple times this week, starting with the first day in pads Monday morning at 8:30 a.m., a mock game Friday, and a Stadium of the Future Day on Sunday.
Music lovers have plenty to choose from as well. The Jacksonville Rock Orchestra brings its summer series to the Florida Theatre on Saturday, August 8 at 7:30 p.m. with a full night dedicated to the music of David Bowie. Over at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre, Friday brings Stephen Wilson Jr. on his Gary The Torch Tour, while Saturday evening features The Fray alongside Dashboard Confessional and Colony House.
Beach and outdoor events round out the weekend nicely. Jax Beach Summer Fest runs at Seawalk Pavilion across Friday evening, Saturday afternoon, and wraps up Sunday midday. The Riverside Arts Market celebrates National Farmers Market Week under the Fuller Warren Bridge on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the Beaches Green Market sets up at Penman Park the same morning.
Downtown also gets in on the action with the First Wednesday Art Walk at James Weldon Johnson Park on August 5 from 5 to 9 p.m. Film fans can catch Stop Making Sense, the classic Talking Heads concert film, at Ponte Vedra Concert Hall on both Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m.
