Guests walking through Disney's Hollywood Studios this week are getting their clearest look yet at what's coming for the Hollywood Brown Derby's revamped outdoor space. The restaurant, which has been part of the park since its opening day on May 1, 1989, is in the final stretch of a months-long patio overhaul.
The project quietly kicked off back in June when rolling planters and construction barriers appeared along the side patio normally used by the Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge. What initially looked like a simple repaving job grew into a full exterior refresh — including a refinished building wall and the removal of the individual shade umbrellas that had long been a fixture of the outdoor area.
The most visible new addition is a permanent awning structure installed over the patio, now wrapped in red fabric that matches the restaurant's existing awnings. Underneath, crews have added fans, decorative golden beams, and new light fixtures, giving the space a polished, cohesive look.
Diners haven't had to miss a beat during construction. Both the main Hollywood Brown Derby dining room and the Lounge have remained open throughout the project, though the Lounge has been operating out of a smaller side-patio space on the opposite end of the building. Walt Disney World has not announced a specific reopening date for the full patio, but current progress suggests it could come soon.
