Royal Caribbean's Hero of the Seas hit a major construction milestone this week when the ship floated out of its dry dock at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland — meaning more than 90 million gallons of water flooded the dock overnight to lift the vessel for the first time. It's a significant step toward the ship's planned debut in August 2027, when she'll take up residence in Miami and begin offering seven-night Caribbean itineraries.
As the fourth ship in the Icon Class, Hero of the Seas will sail many of the same routes as her sisters — think Perfect Day at CocoCay, Cozumel, St. Maarten, and San Juan — but she's bringing a handful of genuinely new features to the lineup. Her supper club will carry a New Orleans theme, following the New York, Chicago, and Hollywood concepts on the three ships that came before her. She'll also debut the fleet's first three-deck Ultimate Treehouse Suite and a refreshed adult-only Hideaway area, which Royal Caribbean says will include the largest swim-up bar at sea.
Additional new touches include a Coconut Cove pool, two family raft slides, and a fresh entertainment program. Hero will also be home to a Chief Dog Officer named Dolly — a nod to the late Dolly Parton — continuing a tradition established on her sister ships. Once Hero arrives in Miami, Icon of the Seas will shift to a new homeport in Galveston, Texas.
With Hero of the Seas' exterior work largely complete, the shipyard's focus now moves to the interior ahead of sea trials. And Royal Caribbean isn't stopping there: a fifth Icon Class ship is already in early production at Meyer Turku, though its name, design, and itineraries haven't been announced yet.
