The finish line is in sight for The Haunted Mansion's exterior refurbishment at Magic Kingdom. According to recent photos, most of the construction scrim and tarps have been stripped away, leaving only a narrow strip of beige scrim along a railing above the exit queue and some dangling green camouflage scrim — both of which appear to be the last remnants of a months-long project.
Landscaping is complete or very close to it. Before work began, dense shrubbery nearly swallowed the building's front wall and railing entirely. The new plantings are more restrained, though Disney may add more greenery or simply allow what's been installed to fill in over time.
The big visual story is the color scheme. The mansion now sports a fresh palette that echoes its 1971 opening-day appearance — noticeably redder brick and grayer trim — replacing the flatter, more monotone beige look it had carried for several years. The attraction was briefly closed the morning of August 4 for ongoing work, so a full close-up inspection wasn't possible.
For guests who have been watching the slow reveal through scrim and tarps, the wait is nearly over. Once that last strip comes down, the fully refreshed mansion should be on full display for hitchhiking ghosts and curious visitors alike.
