Disney's plans to expand parking at the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa have cleared a key regulatory hurdle. The South Florida Water Management District has approved an Environmental Resource permit for modifications to the resort's existing parking lots, covering construction and the operation of a stormwater management system across 3.6 acres.
The project, tied to the broader World Drive North Phase 3 development, focuses on two main areas: 3.4 acres encompassing the Villas and Wedding Pavilion parking lots, and a smaller 0.20-acre parcel situated between the Grand Floridian and Disney's Polynesian Village Resort.
Beyond simply adding more spaces, the plan calls for reconfiguring the existing lots so that the Villas parking area and the Island Tower parking lot are effectively linked together, creating a more connected and cohesive parking footprint for the resort.
