Drivers heading through the Magic Kingdom corridor at Walt Disney World are navigating a newly opened stretch of road along Floridian Way, and the change is hard to miss. The extended segment runs along the western and northern edges of Seven Seas Lagoon, swinging noticeably wider than the old alignment — looping out beyond Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa rather than hugging close to it.
The practical difference for anyone who's sat in traffic near the Grand Floridian is significant. The former road funneled cars through a single lane interrupted by crosswalks and vehicles waiting to exit the hotel's parking lot. The new configuration widens that stretch to two lanes with no signals or crosswalks in the mix, which should ease the backups that regularly formed near Disney's flagship resort.
Two roundabouts are now in place along the new segment. One serves the Grand Floridian's overflow and cast parking areas, while the second — currently directing drivers toward connector roads for nearby resort destinations — is eventually intended to function as an entrance to the Grand Floridian itself. Permits show a third roundabout still to come as part of a future construction phase.
It's worth noting that the intersection of Seven Seas Drive and Floridian Way has been permanently closed, meaning Floridian Way can now only be accessed from World Drive to the west and terminates at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort. Construction equipment, cones, and barricades remain throughout the area, so cautious driving is advised for now. The full project is expected to wrap up in late 2027.
