Florida drivers have a rolling way to give back to the state's natural treasures: the "Explore Our State Parks" specialty license plate, which channels funds directly to conservation and visitor improvements across all 175 Florida state parks.
The Florida State Parks Foundation recently put up a new billboard near Wekiwa Springs State Park in Orlando to spread the word about the program. At $33 per plate, $25 from every purchase goes straight to the foundation to bankroll projects that range from accessibility upgrades to habitat protection.
Since the plate debuted in 2022, the revenue has already made a tangible difference. Funded projects include an accessible hybrid-electric tour boat called the "Great Blue Heron" at Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park, water bottle refilling stations at nearly 100 parks, LED lighting upgrades, emissions-free e-bikes for rangers, and battery-powered maintenance equipment.
The foundation notes that the plate's reach spans the entire state, with funded work benefiting parks from Pensacola down to Key West. Officials say additional projects are already in the pipeline as the program continues to gain momentum.
